Our first floor bathroom is, well, an important and much-used room in our house, especially with two young kids! Our first major house project was actually at my sister-in-law’s house last Christmas when we shiplapped her fireplace and after that, I really wanted to use shiplap in our house. But I wanted a modern look with a pop of color. Our first floor bathroom was the perfect candidate for this look!
Here’s where this bathroom started:

And after we moved into our house in 2017, we painted the walls gray and added a new mirror and light fixture for a mini update:

When we decided to shiplap the wall behind the vanity, I knew that I also wanted to replace the vanity top and cabinet doors. I saw that Allie at Proverbs 31 Girl painted her vanity top white, so I just had to try it during this makeover! Spoiler alert: that didn’t work out very well….more on that here. Anyways, I wanted an updated, more modern look in this bathroom and here is how I achieved that look:

And here’s the final, finished bathroom:

I did a total of six DIY projects in this bathroom! After we installed the shiplap, I painted the vanity black, painted the vanity top white, made new cabinet doors, hemmed the shower curtain and added black tassel trim, and did potato print art with the kids for a fun, custom art print next to the sink. Check out my post here for all of the details on the painted vanity top and cabinet doors plus all the other fun DIYs in this bathroom!
